We're used to churches being converted into pubs and flats - but this project bucks the trend. 'The Charter’ was closed having developed a reputation for antisocial behaviour and illegal activities. This resulted in an area in which residents were wary or frightened and local businesses suffered. During the time it has been empty it has suffered from vandalism and theft as well as damage by water and pigeons. The people at Parkhead Nazarene saw a great opportunity to invest in a new area and bring more life and vibrancy to the community.

The Charter is situated half a mile from Parkhead Cross, at the centre of a residential area which lacks community facilities. The church longs to find ways to serve and bless the community by listening and responding to the needs of those who live there. We aim to engender a spirit of hospitality, inclusion, integration and redemption for those often isolated in the community.
